The Libyan Army has arrested a Ghanaian national, known by the alias Begi, who was reportedly on international watchlists for his involvement in human trafficking and organized crime. The arrest was carried out during a targeted military operation in Tripoli, the Libyan capital.

The operation also led to the rescue of eleven women of different African nationalities who were being held against their will. Investigations indicate that the women were trafficked and forced into prostitution for the financial benefit of Begi and his criminal network.

Authorities believe the suspect operated a trafficking ring that exploited vulnerable migrants and used threats, coercion, and confinement to control the victims. The women have since been handed over to humanitarian agencies for medical care and psychosocial support.

Security sources indicate that Begi had been operating in the region for some time, using Libya as a hub for cross-border trafficking activities. His arrest is considered a major breakthrough in the fight against transnational organized crime across North and West Africa.

International cooperation is expected to intensify as investigations continue into the full scope of the trafficking network. Discussions on possible extradition or prosecution in Libya are ongoing, while Ghanaian authorities are reportedly monitoring developments.

The case highlights ongoing concerns over human trafficking routes through North Africa and underscores the need for stronger collaborative efforts to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
