The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has begun investigations into a power system disturbance that disrupted electricity supply across parts of the country in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
In a statement, GRIDCo said the National Interconnected Transmission System experienced the disturbance at approximately 3:11 a.m., resulting in the simultaneous tripping of some power generating plants and causing widespread interruptions in electricity supply.
The company said it immediately activated its established system restoration procedures, with engineers and system operators working continuously in collaboration with other power sector stakeholders to restore electricity to affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.
GRIDCo noted that while restoration efforts are ongoing, a comprehensive technical investigation has also been launched to determine the precise cause of the system disturbance.
The transmission company apologized to the public for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the restoration process.
It assured the public of its commitment to restoring power to all affected areas without compromising system safety and stability, adding that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
