Mother Reunited with Stolen Baby Boy Thanks to Swift Police Action

A dramatic rescue unfolded in the Upper West Region, where a one-week-old baby boy was stolen from his mother at the Wa market (Kejetia) on August 10, 2025.
The suspect, 38-year-old Abena Martha Maanibeh, allegedly posed as a caretaker at the Wa Regional Hospital and lured the mother to the market under the guise of buying diapers. She then absconded with the baby and a handbag containing valuables.
With the quick and swift action of ASP Stella Atukwia and her team, the suspect was tracked down to her hideout in Nuobollie, Savannah Region, on August 15. The baby was rescued unharmed and reunited with his overjoyed mother.
Abena Martha Maanibeh, has subsequently been arrested and arraigned in the Wa District Magistrate Court and has been remanded to reappear on September 2, 2025.
The Upper West Regional Police Command which reiterates its commitment to safeguarding life and property’s prompt response in this case has brought relief to the family of the stolen baby boy.
