The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West in the Oti Region, Prosper Kweku Addo, has made a passionate appeal to government to urgently deploy teachers, nurses and other public servants to the municipality to address severe staff shortages affecting schools and public institutions.
According to the MCE, although several government offices and social service institutions in the municipality are operational, many of them lack adequate personnel to deliver essential services to residents.
Speaking to our reporter Christian Ahodie at Krachi, Mr. Addo described the situation as worrying, particularly in the education sector where many rural schools are struggling with very few teachers.

He explained that in some basic schools, only about three teachers are responsible for handling pupils from Kindergarten to Primary Six, making effective teaching and learning extremely difficult.
“When you go to some of the schools in the communities, from KG to Primary Six you will see only about three teachers managing the whole school. It is very difficult for them to handle all the classes and give the children the attention they need,” he lamented.
The MCE further noted that the staffing challenge goes beyond the education sector and also affects several government departments and public institutions across the municipality.
He cited offices such as the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and some health facilities where only one officer is sometimes left to perform duties that should normally be handled by several staff members.
According to him, the situation is slowing down service delivery and negatively affecting development efforts in the municipality.
Mr. Addo also expressed concern about the shortage of health professionals in some clinics and health centres, noting that some facilities have been constructed but cannot operate effectively due to lack of personnel.
Meanwhile, some teachers who spoke to this reporter acknowledged government’s efforts in bringing development projects to the area but stressed that more teachers are needed to improve education delivery.
One of the teachers, Kwabla Moses, indicated that although new infrastructure has been provided in some communities, the shortage of teaching staff continues to put pressure on the few available educators.
The Krachi West MCE is therefore appealing to government and relevant authorities, including the Ministries responsible for Education, Health and Employment, to grant immediate clearance for recruitment and posting of staff to the municipality to improve service delivery and support development.
