Illegal Mining Taskforce Members Beat Okada Operator To Death Over Corn

An Okada operator has been allegedly beaten to death by illegal mining taskforce members at Akyem Amenam, near New Abirem in the Birim North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Kwasi Isaac, 29 years old married man with two chikdren met his tragic death as a result of confrontation over roasted Corn.
The unfortunate incident occured when a member of the taskforce caused the a roasted corn Kwasi had bought to fall leading to a confrontation. As a result, Kwasi was subjected to beating by the group members after he questioned why they did that.
In an attempt to report the incident to the Abirem Police, the taskforce members chased after him and continued beating him until he became unconscious. He was rushed to the Abirem Government Hospital for treatment but unfortunately passed away the following day.
The New Abirem District Police Command has subsequently arrested one of the taskforce members to aid in the investigation into the occurrence.
Kwasi’s body has been deposited at the Eye N Eye Mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
Father of the deceased, Baba Moses, has therefore appealed to the government to bring the perpetrators to justice and release his the body for burial. “This is cruel, i urge the government to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. I also request for the release of my son’s remains for burial after the autopsy had been conducted” he stressed.
