Three 18-year-old armed robbers have been sentenced to 10 years each in prison by the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi for their role in a violent robbery spree in Boubai, a community in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The convicts — Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari — were found guilty of multiple counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery during a court hearing on July 8, 2025. Issah also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of causing harm and received a separate three-year sentence, which will run concurrently with his 10-year sentence.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the robbery occurred on the morning of July 1, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. The suspects, in the company of three other accomplices who are still at large, terrorized residents with machetes while riding unregistered motorbikes through the neighborhood. Victims were violently attacked and robbed of their mobile phones, handbags, and cash.
Swift action by community members in collaboration with the police led to the arrest of the three young offenders later that day at their hideout in Aboabo. Police retrieved ten mobile phones and three bags believed to have been stolen during the robbery. These items were handed over to the authorities alongside the suspects.
The court sentenced each of the teenagers to 10 years in prison on seven counts of robbery, with the sentences to run concurrently. In addition, Mamudu Issah received a concurrent three-year sentence for causing harm to one of the victims during the attack.
All three convicts have been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their sentences.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining three suspects who escaped arrest. A public appeal has been issued for any information that could assist in locating the fugitives.
The police praised residents of Boubai and Aboabo for their bravery and swift response, noting that community cooperation played a key role in the arrests. Authorities reiterated their commitment to rooting out violent crime in the region and called on the public to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with law enforcement.
