The Aveyime D/A Methodist Basic School in the North Tongu District has received a significant facelift following years of neglect, overcrowding, and dilapidated infrastructure. The school, which has struggled with inadequate classroom space for its growing population of pupils, now boasts a newly constructed and fully furnished kindergarten block — a direct intervention by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The new kindergarten block is designed to comfortably accommodate over 100 children and features child-friendly classrooms, a staff office, kitchen, washrooms, a storeroom, water storage tanks, and a playground — all tailored to enhance early childhood education.
Until the intervention, both the KG and lower primary classes were crammed into a six-unit makeshift classroom block, severely hampering effective teaching and learning for the school’s 467 pupils.
Headmaster of the school, Mr. Essau Gafleku, expressed deep appreciation for the timely support, describing the project as transformational. He noted that the facility not only addresses long-standing spatial challenges but also creates a safer and more conducive environment for the children.”This new building brings great relief. The children can now learn in dignity and safety. We are grateful to the Honourable MP for prioritizing education in our community,” said Mr. Gafleku.
The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Madam Victoria Doe, lauded the MP’s continuous efforts to uplift education in the district. She called the kindergarten block “a game changer” that will strengthen the foundation of academic performance in the area.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who officially commissioned the facility, reiterated his unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality education throughout North Tongu. He disclosed that the new block is one of 20 kindergarten projects he has spearheaded within the district this year alone, with total investments exceeding GH¢1 million “Education is the cornerstone of development. I will continue to prioritize the education of our children by providing the infrastructure, tools, and resources they need to thrive,” Hon. Ablakwa stated during the commissioning ceremony.
The joy and excitement among pupils, staff, and community members were evident as children explored their new learning space — a welcome departure from the previous overcrowded and unsafe structure.
With the newly commissioned block, Aveyime D/A Methodist Basic School is poised to offer its youngest learners a strong start, supporting the broader goal of improving literacy, creativity, and academic performance across North Tongu.
