The Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ian Oquaye has been cited in a controversial land transaction involving the sale of state land to his wife at what has been described as a “ridiculously low price.”

According to documents uncovered, the party secretary—who served as a Protocol Officer at the Tema Development Company Limited (TDC) during the past eight years—sold a parcel of land near Tema Senior High School to his wife for just GH¢2,000.

TDC Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, disclosed the matter during a media engagement in Tema, where he briefed journalists on the company’s achievements over the past eight months.

“After citing the document, I spoke to the woman, and we have retrieved the land for the state,” he said. He explained that the land, originally earmarked for the construction of a public toilet facility, will now be used for its intended purpose.

In a related development, Mr. Nunekpeku revealed another case in which a TDC staff member allegedly allocated land to himself under a false name. Though the documents initially indicated ownership by a woman with a Muslim name, further investigations exposed the true beneficiary as a TDC employee.

The TDC boss suggested that these incidents highlight a broader trend of questionable land allocations that may have occurred under the company’s previous management. He assured the public that under the new administration, efforts will be made to reclaim all state lands acquired illegally.

“We will do this without intimidation or media name-calling but through due process. Every piece of state land wrongfully taken will be recovered,” Mr. Nunekpeku emphasized.
