Michael Tetteh Kwetey has officially filed his nomination to contest the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), taking a significant step towards his ambition of leading the party in the region.

Mr Kwetey submitted his nomination forms at the NDC Greater Accra Regional Office on Thursday, October 15, 2026, describing the development as an important milestone in his pursuit of the position.

In a statement announcing the filing, the aspirant expressed optimism about his political ambition and reaffirmed his commitment to working towards its realisation.

“One step ahead of a dream to be fulfilled soon, the hard work continues,” he said, while expressing gratitude to Allah using the Arabic expression, “Alhamdulillah”, meaning praise be to God.

His filing comes as the NDC advances preparations for its 2026 regional executive elections, which are expected to determine the party’s leadership and organisational direction across the regions.

Focus on regional party leadership

The Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship is a key position within the party’s regional structure, with responsibilities that include coordinating regional party activities, strengthening constituency and branch structures, mobilising members and supporting the party’s electoral preparations.

The contest comes at a time when the NDC is undertaking an internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The party’s published timetable scheduled the filing of nominations for regional executive positions for October 14 and 15, followed by the vetting of aspirants on October 16 and 17.

The regional executive elections are scheduled for November 14 and 15, 2026.

The internal electoral process is expected to shape the composition of the party’s regional leadership as it works to consolidate its structures and prepare for future political contests.

Grassroots mobilisation

Mr Kwetey’s campaign messaging emphasises grassroots leadership and personal engagement, reflected in his public campaign hashtags, including #GrassrootLeader and #MikeCares.
