Saint Gina School Complex in Ashaiman has received a major boost to its science education program following the donation of assorted laboratory equipment by SEEDS Inc., a United States-based non-profit organization.

The items, which include Bunsen burners, funnels, droppers, retort stands, tripod stands, wash bottles, test tube holders, and graduated cylinders, were presented to the school as part of SEEDS Inc.’s commitment to improving science and technology education in Ghana. The donation also included novels to promote reading among students.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Jacqueline Wright Mackall, President of SEEDS Inc., said the gesture was motivated by the school’s consistent academic excellence over the past decade.

“Today’s world thrives on science and technology, and countries are advancing because of these two fields. Saint Gina School Complex has demonstrated outstanding academic performance over the years, and we are excited to support the school with these resources to encourage students to embrace science,” she stated.

Established by Ms. Wright Mackall, a retired U.S. educator, and her husband, Akinlabi Mackall, SEEDS Inc. has been active in Ghana since 1992, providing educational materials, books, and scholarships to schools and individual students. Their daughter, Abena Mackall, has also been part of the initiative, which emphasizes both importing learning materials and funding the purchase of resources produced locally in Ghana.

Beyond school support, SEEDS Inc. has funded tuition fees for needy students and currently sponsors several Ghanaian high school graduates in universities across the country. To date, two beneficiaries have completed their studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, while one has graduated from the University of Ghana. Two others, both female, are currently pursuing degrees at the University of Ghana—one at the Medical School and the other at the School of General Studies.

Despite operating with limited resources, SEEDS Inc. pledged continued support for Saint Gina School Complex, including plans to strengthen the school’s library and music studio. The partnership, they said, is built on the institution’s strong academic record and long-standing relationship with its directors, Mrs. Ernestina Owusu and Mrs. Georgina Owusu.

Mrs. Ernestina Owusu, Director of Saint Gina School Complex, expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention that will enhance practical learning and help maintain the school’s leading position in the Ashaiman Municipality.
