The people of Wudzedeke in the Agotime Ziope District of the Volta Region have heaved a sigh of relief after decades of battling water scarcity. Thanks to the intervention of Amewodela Osagyefo Togbe Kitikata I, the Development Warrior King of Ziope, in partnership with World Vision USA, the community now has access to clean, safe drinking water.
A solar-powered mechanized borehole project has been commissioned to serve nine communities in the area, putting an end to years of dependence on unsafe water sources that caused frequent disease outbreaks and even miscarriages among women.
At the commissioning ceremony, Togbe Kitikata I who is also Founder of Heaven Hands & The Rescue Project described the water situation as very disturbing and a major challenge, adding that the new system represents health, life, and dignity for his people.
Dr. Gregory Allgood, Director of Water, World Vision US, urged residents to maintain the facility properly to ensure its longevity. It is not easy to get support from donors like this, he said.
The Avadada of Wudzedeke, Togbe Vizaze, appealed to government to further support the community with amenities such as public toilets and improved health facilities.
District Chief Executive of Agotime Ziope, Alfred Dikro, commended the collaboration, assuring that the NDC government is committed to solving water challenges across the district.
In addition to Wudzedeke, over six solar-powered boreholes were commissioned to serve surrounding communities.
With this project, the Royal City of Wudzedeke can now look forward to a healthier and more dignified future.
