The Suntreso District Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers following a daring early morning street robbery at Alignment, Kwadaso Estate, a suburb of Kumasi.

The suspects, identified as Issah Abdul, 22, and Abdul Rahman, 20, allegedly attacked a female victim around 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. According to police, the two were riding an unregistered blue Royal motorbike when they approached the woman, who was on her way out. One of the suspects, armed with a machete, forcibly took her handbag, which contained a Samsung smartphone valued at GH₵2,000 and other personal items.

During the robbery, one of the suspects inadvertently dropped his Samsung mobile phone at the scene. The victim handed the phone over to the police, which became a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation.

Acting swiftly on the lead, police traced and arrested the suspects at Sofoline. They were found with the unregistered motorbike, four assorted mobile phones, and a cash amount of GH₵1,690. Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to the robbery and led investigators to Suame Magazine, where they had concealed the machete used in the crime. The weapon was retrieved and taken into police custody.

The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Police have retained five assorted mobile phones, the Royal motorbike, the machete, and the cash sum as evidence.

The command says an application will be filed to remand the suspects in court while preparations are underway to conduct an identification parade to help uncover other possible victims linked to the suspects.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, assured the public of the Police Service’s commitment to intensify efforts against street crime and ensure public safety.
