The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan Mensah, has revealed government’s ambitious plan to develop 1,400 megawatts of modern renewable energy to complement Ghana’s existing 5,700 megawatts of grid power. According to him, this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s energy security and maintain the current stability in the power sector. The minister made this known when he commissioned an 859 kilowatt-peak (kWp) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power station for Sintex Ghana in Tema.

The 859kWp solar power installation, expected to deliver nearly 1 megawatt of clean energy, was developed for Sintex Ghana Limited, manufacturers of polytanks and PVC pipes. The project was executed by SolPower Company Limited and Valtek Corporation, a Ghanaian-owned renewable energy firm.

This solar facility forms part of a broader collaboration between private sector partners and the government to achieve the monumental 1,400MW renewable energy project earmarked for the Dawa Industrial Enclave, aimed at powering industries within the zone.

During the brief commissioning ceremony at the Sintex factory in Tema, the company’s Director, Karan Budhrani, underscored the significance of the plant to their commitment to adopting clean and green energy solutions-aligned with their environmental sustainability values.

The Deputy Minister, Richard Gyan Mensah, commended the company for the investment, noting that such private sector-led initiatives are essential for the government’s renewable energy vision. He reiterated government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring stable, reliable, and efficient power supply for businesses across the country.

The minister later toured the facility to gain first-hand insight into Sintex Ghana’s operations and energy requirements.
