Women have been urged to embrace confidence, competence, and collaboration as critical tools for breaking barriers and advancing into leadership positions across industries.

The Chief Executive Officer of StratComm Africa, Ms. Esther Cobbah, made the call during the launch of the GRIDCo Ladies Association (GRIDLASS) and the commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration in Tema.
The event, held under the theme “Empowered Women: Accelerating Equity in Power and Leadership,” brought together management, staff, and distinguished guests to reflect on the role of women in national development and the energy sector.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Cobbah stressed that empowering women was not only a social responsibility but also a strategic necessity for organizational growth and national progress.
She called on institutions to intentionally create opportunities that promote fairness, mentorship, and equal participation for women at all levels of leadership.
“Women must be encouraged and supported to take up leadership roles, not only for their personal advancement but also for the benefit of society as a whole,” she stated.
Ms. Cobbah further challenged women to continuously build their capacity, pursue excellence, and support one another in professional spaces.

The celebration also highlighted the achievements and contributions of women within Ghana Grid Company, particularly in the traditionally male-dominated power sector.
President of GRIDLASS, Madam Azarah Amadu, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting professional development, mentorship, and welfare initiatives aimed at empowering female staff.

She noted that the association would continue to champion programmes that inspire women to rise into influential positions while contributing meaningfully to the growth of the company and the country.
Madam Amadu cited the appointment of the current Board Chair of GRIDCo, Kuukua Maurice Ankrah, as a significant milestone and expressed optimism that the company would soon appoint its first female Chief Executive Officer.

Activities marking the celebration included panel discussions on leadership experiences, networking sessions, gender equity conversations, and the launch of the GRIDLASS Leadership and Excellence Recognition Awards.
Participants described the programme as insightful and inspiring, expressing confidence that sustained efforts toward equity and inclusion would help create a more balanced and progressive workplace.
