Amedzofe, one of Ghana’s most picturesque mountain towns in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, is set to make history with the inauguration of West Africa’s longest zipline — a landmark eco-tourism project aimed at transforming the community into a leading adventure and nature tourism destination.

The announcement was made by the Assemblyman for Amedzofe, Hon. Robert Elikem Ameh, during the Amedzofe Tourism Day Celebration, which also sought to raise GHC 400,000 to support road rehabilitation and other community development projects.

The zipline project, spearheaded by Conservation Ghana, comes after the successful completion of a canopy walkway designed to enhance the visitor experience. The new adventure facility, expected to be commissioned by November or early December 2025, will make Amedzofe a key tourism hub in Ghana and a must-visit site for both local and international tourists.

Tourism as a Tool for Growth and Unity

One of the guest speakers, Rev. S.K. Boateng, highlighted the significant role of tourism in improving livelihoods and fostering social cohesion in the Amedzofe community.

He noted that tourism has created sustainable sources of income for residents, provided market opportunities for local produce, and enhanced the community’s appeal to investors. Rev. Boateng commended the Amedzofe Tourism Council for its commitment to transparency and accountability, including the publication of audited accounts to ensure that revenues generated benefit the people directly.

He further outlined the council’s achievements in infrastructure development, particularly the rehabilitation of internal roads and the enhancement of sanitation systems, both of which have improved accessibility and cleanliness in the town.

Addressing challenges such as population growth and inclusivity, Rev. Boateng urged residents to remain united and proactive in addressing local needs through collaboration.
Tourism is not just about showcasing beauty but building unity, accountability, and shared prosperity,” he said. “When we work together and remain transparent, we can transform Amedzofe into a beacon of sustainable tourism for Ghana and Africa.

He concluded with a call for renewed unity among all community stakeholders, encouraging them to embrace the tourism drive as a collective mission for development.

Government Commitment and Development Agenda
Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ho West, Mr. Francis Dusey Profer, emphasized that sustainable development in Amedzofe can only be achieved through unity and cooperation. He assured residents that the government has prioritized the construction of the Fume–Bane road, a critical route that connects Amedzofe to major tourist sites including Mount Gemi, Ote Waterfalls, and the new zipline site.

The DCE also encouraged landowners to partner with investors instead of selling off their lands, stressing that such partnerships would allow the community to benefit from long-term tourism growth while preserving their heritage for future generations. “Tourism is a collective responsibility. The government, community, and private sector must all play their roles to make Amedzofe the tourism powerhouse it deserves to be,” Mr. Profer stated.

Queen Mother’s Environmental Commitment

The Queen Mother of Amedzofe, Onetsitsie Osawa Dzedze Asantisue IV, reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring environmental cleanliness and the safety of both residents and tourists. She highlighted the need for continued collaboration with security agencies and appealed for government and private sector support to enhance infrastructure development.
“Our goal is to keep Amedzofe clean, safe, and welcoming,” she said. “With sustained investment and community cooperation, tourism will continue to bring opportunities to our youth and prosperity to our people.”

Community Optimism and Outlook

Community leaders and residents expressed optimism that the zipline project, together with other eco-tourism initiatives, would generate employment, attract investment, and boost the local economy.

With its serene climate, breathtaking mountain views, and rich cultural heritage, Amedzofe is poised to become Ghana’s next major tourism hub — a model of how sustainable tourism can drive unity, accountability, and inclusive development across communities.
