The Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged misappropriation of food supplies meant for students of Ghanata Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region.
The development follows what the Minister described as “credible reports” over the past few weeks alleging that the school’s bursar, Lamisi Sarah, had been diverting portions of food items intended to support student feeding and welfare.
In a statement issued in Accra, Hon. Ocloo said the allegations point to a serious breach of public trust and an act that directly undermines the well-being of students.
“These provisions are meant to support the welfare and proper nourishment of our wards. Any interference with such resources is a serious breach of trust and public duty,” she said.
According to Hon. Ocloo, upon receiving the complaints, she immediately engaged the constituency National Security apparatus to undertake a discreet investigation into the matter. She disclosed that during a visit to the constituency, she personally confirmed the alleged activity, leading to the apprehension of the suspect.
The Minister said she directed that the suspect be handed over to the Police to allow due process under the law.
While expressing concern over the incident, she noted that such actions erode public confidence in state institutions and compromise government interventions designed to improve conditions in senior high schools.
“It is particularly unfortunate when individuals entrusted with responsibility engage in conduct that sabotages government efforts, only for the same system to be blamed for failures created by such misconduct,” she added.
Hon. Ocloo stressed that the case would be pursued thoroughly and transparently, assuring that accountability would be upheld.
“Any person found culpable will face the full rigours of the law. The welfare of our students and the integrity of our public institutions must never be compromised,” the Minister affirmed.
Police investigations are expected to commence immediately, with further updates anticipated as the case progresses.
