The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is set to institute a new academic excellence award following a pledge by the Volta Region Representative on the Council of State, H.E. Gabriel T.K.A. Kwamigah-Atokple, to endow a USD 1,500 prize for top-performing students in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

In a formal letter to the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Edwin, H.E. Atokple expressed appreciation to the University and the Committee of Trustees for Academic Prizes Fund for acknowledging his intention to establish the “Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple Prize.” The award will be presented annually to the Overall Best Graduating Student in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

He explained that the USD 1,500 endowment underscores his commitment to promoting academic excellence and nurturing well-prepared practitioners capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s healthcare system. He added that recognizing exceptional performance serves as a powerful motivation for students to push beyond their limits.

H.E. Atokple also affirmed his readiness to meet all administrative requirements necessary for the formal establishment of the prize. He assured UHAS of his cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of the award for the next five years.

“It is gratifying to know that this gesture is considered useful in motivating students to strive for excellence,” he stated.

UHAS has welcomed the proposal and commended the Council of State Member for his continued support in strengthening academic standards and professional development within the health sector.

The Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple Prize, valued at USD 1,500, is expected to become one of the University’s notable academic honours, further advancing its mission of producing highly skilled health professionals for national development.
