The Acting Managing Director of the Tema Development Company Limited (TDC), Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, has threatened to take legal action against the Media General Group if it fails to retract what he describes as a defamatory publication targeting his person and office.

The publication, headlined “Homeowner sues TDC boss over alleged land grab as secret night-work videos emerge,” appeared on 3news.com, a subsidiary of the Media General Group, on July 31, 2025. The article was authored by one Richard Quashie.

According to a statement from the legal representatives of the MD, the report contains false and damaging allegations, including claims that Mr. Nunekpeku is involved in illegal construction activities on unlawfully acquired land for personal benefit, allegedly aided by military personnel.

“These allegations are entirely false, unfounded, and lack any credible evidence. They are presented as facts, despite being unproven claims in a pending lawsuit, and have caused significant damage to our client’s reputation as a professional and a public servant,” the lawyers emphasized.

The solicitors are therefore demanding that Media General issue an immediate public retraction of the article with the same level of prominence as the original publication, clearly stating that the allegations are unproven and correcting the narrative. They further demand that the story be taken down from the company’s website and that Media General desist from any further publication or republication of the said defamatory content.

The lawyers warned that failure by Media General to comply with these demands would leave them with no option but to initiate legal proceedings.

Head of Corporate Planning and Communications at TDC, Dorothy Asare-Kuma Adolf (Esq.), in a separate release, provided further clarification. She indicated that the reporter, Richard Quashie, had contacted TDC’s call center for a response before the story was published.

Responding to the inquiry, Mrs. Adolf said she informed the reporter that TDC, as a development company, handles numerous legal cases and that she was unaware of any suit specifically targeting the MD. She added that she could not comment further since the matter was allegedly before the court.

“To my surprise, within minutes I saw the story already published on 3news.com. I immediately called the reporter back, and he attempted to justify the decision by saying the publication was only part one of the story and that our response would form part two,” she recounted.

Subsequent checks confirmed the existence of such a case, but Mrs. Adolf maintained that TDC will allow the court process to take its full course and will not make any public pronouncement on it.

She expressed disappointment in the reporter’s handling of the situation. “For him to suggest that I possess internal investigative powers or that I am duty-bound to be briefed on every legal matter involving the company is a complete misunderstanding of my role in corporate communications,” she stated.

Mrs. Adolf concluded that TDC respects the authority of the courts and will not engage in media trials or public opinion battles.
