A growing unrest continues to mount within the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), following President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to retain Engineer Mark Awuah Baah, as the Chief Executive Officer, despite attaining retirement age.

According to insiders, majority of GRIDCo staff and sections of the NDC grassroots are concerned that given his allegiance to opposition NPP, Ing. Baah’s could undermine the government’s efforts to reset the company in line with the much-touted resetting agenda.

A letter sighted by VoiceAfricaonline.com dated January 15, 2025, issued in same month indicates that Ing. Baah, was due for compulsory retirement on June 15, 2025, upon attaining the age of 60, in line with Article 12 of the company’s Conditions of Service clearly instructing him to settle his indebtedness and vacate the company’s accommodation. However, months after the deadline, he is still at post controlling affairs of the strategic installation.

This defiance, workers claim, directly contravene both GRIDCo’s internal policy and presidential directives.

“How can a man who has officially retired still be running this critical state institution, Who is protecting him, and why?” an agitated staff member asked.

This portal uncovered that despite an explicit directive from the Chief of Staff placing moratorium on mass recruitment, documents and testimonies allegedly point to “nichodemous” hirings taking place largely in favour of individuals from the opposition NPP.

Some frustrated staff, speaking on conditions of anonymity, accused the leadership saying “Our youth bled for this victory. How can our own sit idle with CVs while NPP appointees keep jobs beyond retirement age? The resetting agenda is being undermined from within,” anorher worker laments.

Party insiders whisper that this quiet resistance is undermining President Mahama’s Resetting Agenda.

“How can we reset Ghana when the very people who wrecked it are still signing contracts, making appointments, and controlling the purse strings?” the concerned workers fumed.

The worried workers accused the GRIDCo board members of shielding Ing. Baah, while sidelining their own breeding deep suspicion within the party base that elements of the old regime are being recycled into the new one.

Though open dissent remains limited for now as many fear being victimized, the frustration keeps boiling on.

The development some bigwigs in the say “This is a betrayal. If this issue is not fixed quickly, the government will wake up one day to realize it has won power but lost control.”

The multimillion question then remains, who is protecting Ing. Baah? Why has the retirement directive been ignored?. The coming days promise to be interesting should Ing. Baah, continue to defy the Chief of Staff’s directive and remain at post.
