A renewed call for strategic unity and proactive engagement has been made to traditional leaders in the Volta Region as the push for regional development gains momentum.

At a General Meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs held in Ho, the region’s representative on the Council of State, H.E. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, urged the chiefs to speak with one voice and align closely with government structures to advance key development priorities.

“This is a call for us to explore bold, forward-looking initiatives that secure financial independence for the House and help us speak with one voice on development issues that affect our people,” he said.

Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple emphasized the need for the House to collectively engage the Presidency on three key projects deemed vital to the region’s transformation. These include the Volta Harbour Project, which he said would position the region as a strategic trade and logistics hub; the operationalisation of the Ho Aviation Training School to expand technical education and attract investment; and agricultural mechanisation to modernise farming, improve food security, and empower the youth.

“My role on the Council of State is strengthened when it is backed by a clear and united voice from the Volta Regional House of Chiefs,” he stressed.

He commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for directing, through the Minister for Foreign Affairs and MP for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that the $30 million Chinese grant be allocated for the construction of an ultra-modern market in Aflao.

“This is a welcome development and a clear sign that our advocacy is yielding results,” Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple noted. “But we must not stop here. The harbour, aviation school, and agricultural projects must follow.”

The Council of State member further urged the House to embrace a long-term vision centered on achieving economic autonomy for the Volta Region, supported by infrastructure, enterprise, and institutional strength.

Quoting Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah — “We face neither East nor West; we face forward” — he encouraged the chiefs to adopt a forward-looking, united stance in their approach to governance and development.

“Let us move forward together. Let us speak with one voice. And let us build a Volta Region that thrives economically, culturally, and in unity,” he concluded.
