The family of a 14-year-old student who died barely two weeks after reporting to Abomosu STEM Senior High School in the Eastern Region is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The family of Daniel Boateng Mintah says conflicting accounts of events leading to his death, concerns about the condition in which they found his body at the mortuary, and questions surrounding medication found among his belongings have heightened their concerns.
Daniel left home on September 18, 2026, excited to begin senior high school and pursue his dream of becoming a computer engineer. However, his aspirations were cut short barely two weeks after he reported to school.

According to the family, on September 30, they received a call informing them that Daniel was unwell and needed an injection for suspected malaria.
His mother, Joyce Mintah, says she had spoken to him earlier that day before being asked to send GH¢50 for the injection, together with his health insurance details.
The family says subsequent attempts to obtain updates on his condition proved unsuccessful for several hours.
At about 3:10 p.m., another caller, who identified himself as the school’s headmaster, reportedly asked Daniel’s parents to come to the school urgently.
The parents set off but were redirected to Kwabeng Hospital, where they were informed that their son had been brought in dead.
Daniel’s father, David Mintah, says a doctor provided information about his son’s condition and the need for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Family Raises Concerns Over Condition of Body
The family’s concerns intensified on October 6 when Daniel’s father visited his body at the Tafo mortuary.
David Mintah alleges that he found his son’s body bleeding, raising further questions for the family about the circumstances surrounding the death and the handling of the body.
The body had been transferred from Kwabeng Hospital to the Tafo mortuary on October 1 at the family’s request.
The family is also seeking clarification over information reportedly provided by the school that Daniel had left the orientation area to urinate but failed to return.
The family wants a comprehensive account of the events leading to the teenager’s death, including what happened between the time he was reported to be unwell and when he was taken to the hospital.
Sister Questions Medication Found Among Belongings
Daniel’s elder sister, Vivian Mintah, a nurse, has raised additional concerns about psychiatric medication she says was among the belongings handed over to the family by the school.
The family is seeking clarification about the medication and the circumstances under which it came to be among Daniel’s possessions.
The presence of the medication, however, does not by itself establish whether Daniel had been taking it, why it was among his belongings, or whether it had any connection to his death.
Mother Remembers Son’s Ambition
For Daniel’s mother, Joyce Mintah, the loss is particularly painful because of the ambitions her son had for his future.
She remembers him as a determined boy with a passion for computers who wanted to make his family proud.
Daniel’s former teacher, Ricky Kwabena Godigah, an Assistant Headmaster of Richenfel Academy at Dawhenya, Tema Community 25, has also called for a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Family Appeals to Police, Education Minister
The family is appealing to the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to intervene and help establish the facts surrounding the incident.
They are also calling for Daniel’s body to be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra to facilitate further investigations.
The family maintains that a comprehensive and independent investigation is necessary to address the questions surrounding the teenager’s death and provide clarity on the events that preceded it.
As the family seeks answers, the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s death remain a matter requiring clarification through medical findings and an independent investigation.
