Residents of Global Down and Japan City in the Adjei-Kojo electoral area of Tema are set to experience long-awaited relief as the Tema West Municipal Assembly begins construction of a bridge over a flood-prone drain that has disrupted movement and economic activity for years.
The project, currently underway, is aimed at addressing persistent flooding caused by a large drain that links the two communities. During the rainy season, the drain often overflows, cutting off access routes, halting business operations and exposing residents — particularly schoolchildren — to health and safety risks as they wade through floodwaters.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Tema West, Ludwig Teye Totimeh, led a team of assembly officials on an inspection tour of the project site. He expressed optimism that the bridge would significantly improve mobility, enhance safety and restore economic activities in the area.

He noted that the Assembly remains committed to tackling critical infrastructure challenges across the municipality and assured residents that the bridge would be completed within one to two months.
Assembly Member for Adjei-Kojo, Charity Dela Siameh, commended the Assembly and government for responding to the longstanding concerns of residents. She said the project would ease hardship during the rainy season and help prevent the recurring disruptions that have affected livelihoods in the community.

Ms. Siameh, however, appealed for further improvements in the road network to complement the bridge project and ensure sustained development in the area.
The bridge, when completed, is expected to restore safe and uninterrupted movement between Global Down and Japan City, bringing relief to residents who have endured years of seasonal flooding challenges.
