Police in Tema have arrested four men for allegedly possessing 315 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics.

The suspects, identified as Nura Sali, 44, Pius Chukwuma, 49, Mustapha Umar, 18, and Abdulai Amayau, 23, were apprehended on Monday, September 8, 2025, during a police operation at the Community 1 Industrial Area. The operation was conducted by the Tema Community 1 District Police, acting on intelligence.

According to a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command, the parcels were discovered concealed inside the tyres of a truck with registration number GN 7291-16. The vehicle was intercepted and impounded during the operation.

The four suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Command, commended the officers involved for what she described as their professionalism and dedication. She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes to safeguard communities within the region.

Meanwhile, the Command has called on the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for swift action.

The seizure adds to ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in the country. Authorities say such operations form part of broader strategies to stem the spread of narcotics and related criminal activities.
