A former Airforce Officer, Wind Commander Nelson Patrick Sorgbordzor, says it cannot be that the Blackbox will not contain data concerning the cause of the helicopter crash.

Asked on the “Key Points”, a current affairs talkshow on TV3, if that is a posibility, W.C Sorgbordzor, said “It is impossible for the Blackbox not to contain data as to why the crash occured”. The Ex-Airforce Officer who never doubted the professional capabilities of the crew members said since all of them had died, the cause of the crash can only be unraveled by information from the blackbox.

He however urged Ghanaians to be a little patient with their expectations to know what caused the accident saying, to say that the voice recorder and the blackbox have been found doesn’t mean the cause of the crash will be ascertained soon. “It will take only the manufacturer to open the blackbox, either a team will come down or we send the it to the manufacturer in China for opening to obtain information from it” he added.

W.C Sorgbordzor, by way of education indicated that unlike aeroplane, a helicopter which taken off up to some distance delinks communication with the control room. This sought to answer a pertinent question going begging as why the control room had no information prior to the crash if the helicoper had developed technical fault.

The Ex-service who disclosed that recording starts as soon as he engine is turned on till the time of the crash expressed optimism that the blackbox will surely disclose what led to the unfortunate incident on that Wednesday morning.

President of the Ghana Academy of Forensic Sciences, Dr. Pet-paul Wepeba, said the helicopter crash scene should have quickly be cordoned off and declared a no-go zone until vital information are picked from the accident spot by experts. “There must be a national education to deter the public from rushing to such scenes sometimes in attempts to help which ends up causing harm than good” he noted.

According to him, it was unfortunate to see bodies of some of the victims carried in Cocoa sacks. “You know DNA is made of protein, the moment accident victims are carried in unspecified material like sacks, it tempers with the DNA making it difficult to establish the actual cause” he added.
