The Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ludwig Totteme, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the area, Lawyer James Enu, has cut the sod for the construction of a hospital at Adjei Kojo in the Tema West Municipality.
The project, estimated to cost over GH¢300 million, is expected to significantly improve access to public healthcare for residents of Adjei Kojo and surrounding communities.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Totteme said the rising cost of healthcare in private facilities has made access increasingly difficult for many Ghanaians, resulting in persistent pressure on existing public health institutions. He noted that the new facility forms part of government’s broader effort to expand public healthcare infrastructure and bring services closer to the people.
He indicated that the project aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s agenda of improving access to essential social services, particularly healthcare. According to him, the hospital project was awarded through a competitive bidding process, with the most competent contractor selected to execute the works.
The MCE assured residents that the municipal assembly would closely monitor the project to ensure it is completed within the scheduled timeframe. He further gave assurances that the facility would be fully equipped with modern medical equipment upon completion, stressing that it would not be allowed to deteriorate into a “white elephant” project.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. James Enu, highlighted government’s commitment to infrastructure development under its flagship “Big Push” agenda. He said the initiative seeks to ensure that all constituencies benefit fairly from major road projects across the country.

Mr. Enu disclosed that several key roads within the Tema West Constituency would be rehabilitated to improve traffic flow and enhance economic activity. He also announced plans to expand the Adjei Kojo underbridge to ease persistent traffic congestion in the area.
The hospital project is anticipated to reduce the healthcare burden on existing facilities in the Tema Metropolis and improve health outcomes for residents once completed.
