TDC Ghana Limited has announced plans to demolish unauthorized structures on the lands of Tema Secondary School after the expiration of an eviction notice issued to encroachers.

The decision follows a joint inspection exercise carried out by TDC officials and the school’s management after growing concerns over illegal activities springing up around the campus. Several pubs, bars and makeshift shops were discovered to have encroached onto the school’s legally acquired land.
According to school authorities, the presence of these establishments is not only inappropriate for a learning environment but has also created sanitation and safety challenges for students—particularly around the girls’ dormitory and other sensitive areas.

Speaking to journalists during the inspection tour, the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Ltd, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, confirmed that the grace period granted to the encroachers has ended, and the state housing agency will take action.

He explained that the initial notice was intended to allow occupants to remove their belongings without damage, but insisted that TDC will not hesitate to demolish the structures if they remain.
“The notice we gave has expired. We only allowed time so they could move their things safely. If they refuse to vacate, we will have no option but to demolish the structures,” he stressed.
The team also visited the Tema Children’s Park, following rumors suggesting that some Chinese investors planned to take over the space to develop a casino. The TDC boss dismissed the claims, assuring that the land remains a public facility and will not be handed over for private misuse.

“No one will be allowed to misappropriate any land under my watch. Every parcel must benefit government and the public,” he added.
TDC says it will continue its broader efforts to protect state-acquired lands within the Tema acquisition area and ensure that public institutions, including schools, remain safe and free from encroachment.
