A bizarre incident has unfolded in the Yendi Municipality of the Savanna region of Ghana, where a young man in his early 30s, only identified as Latif, was arrested for possessing a live infant crocodile in his room. The arrest was made by some youth in Yendi on Tuesday night after Latif took the reptile to the Gbewaa Palace, a restricted area, seeking direction.

According to reports, Latif had been keeping the crocodile in his room without feeding it for days. The strange behavior Latif showed towards his peers prompted them to investigate, and they discovered the reptile’s presence. Latif’s decision to take the crocodile to the palace was met with resistance from the youth, who confronted him and subsequently handed him over to the authorities.

In a statement to some elders after his rescue, Latif claimed that he was in a “spiritual realm” and that his actions were aimed at reducing hardships among the youth and preventing the deaths of prominent figures in the Ghanaian society including chiefs, saying he did not mean any harm.

The incident has caused fear and panic in the area, with many residents expressing concern about the safety implications of keeping a wild animal in a residential area. The authorities are currently investigating the matter, and efforts are being made to apprehend anyone else involved.

This incident highlights the need for awareness and education on wildlife conservation and the potential dangers of keeping wild animals in captivity.

At the time of questioning by residents, Latif was bleeding from various parts of the body including the ear due to the severe assault visited on him by the mob.
