The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested two persons for allegedly transporting substances suspected to be narcotic drugs within the Volta Region.

The suspects, identified as Etornam Vumadzi, a driver, and Emmanuel Komlagah, were arrested on Friday, January 30, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation along the Godenu route as they allegedly attempted to transport the suspected substances toward Togo.

According to the police, intelligence indicated that a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19 was conveying a consignment believed to be narcotic drugs across the border. Acting on the information, officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search.

The search reportedly led to the retrieval of eighteen (18) sacks, each containing thirty-six (36) yellow oval parcels, amounting to a total of six hundred and forty-eight (648) parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Police further disclosed that during preliminary investigations, a third party identified only as Joseph contacted the police team by phone and allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GH₵150,000 to facilitate the release of the suspects. In addition, the suspects themselves reportedly offered an upfront payment of GH₵32,000. All alleged bribe offers were firmly rejected by the officers, the police said.

The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. The seized items have also been retained for further examination and evidentiary purposes.

Police say the suspects will be arraigned before court in due course to face the full rigours of the law.

The Volta North Regional Police Command in a statement signed by Inspector Felix Kwao, Public Relations Officer, has reiterated its commitment to combating narcotic drug trafficking and cross-border crimes, while commending officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and integrity.
