Forty national service personnel graduated from a two-week basic military training program at the 1 infantry Battalion at Michel camp in Tema. The service personnel are the first batch of service personnel undergoing the mandatory basic military training announced by this current administration as part of their manifesto promise.

The trainees were taken through basic military orientation that encompasses physical training, drills, time management, responsible citizenship, leadership, first aid, and work ethics among others.

The training, aimed at instilling discipline, nationalism, and leadership skills, was hailed as a success by officials.

The graduates, comprising 22 males and 18 females, were urged to apply the skills acquired during the training to their roles at TDC Ghana Limited and beyond.

Speaking at the passing out ceremony, the managing Director of TDC, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku emphasized the importance of discipline, service, and integrity, stating that these values were essential for building a stronger institution and a better Ghana.

“Discipline, resilience and order and respect for authority. These are not temporary lessons. They are lifelong values that must guide how you think out and serve. As you’re graduate serving your nation your role is critical. Ghana does not only need skill individuals it needs principled individuals. People who can be trusted to do what is right even when no one is watching. As you return to your roles at TDC Ghana Limited I urge you to carry three guiding principles with you. discipline, service. and integrity.

“Discipline is the foundation of excellence. “Let the discipline you have acquired here reflect in your work ethics and daily conduct.”

Mr Nunekpeku stressed that National service is not just an obligation but an opportunity to contribute meaningfully and to grow. “Approach every responsibility with purpose knowing that even the smallest tasks can make difference”. He further charged them to let integrity lead them in what ever they do at work.

“The strength of an institution depends on the character of those who serve within them. Reject shortcuts, reject dishonesty and uphold trust placed in you at all times. I challenge you to stand out by your impact. Let your work speak for you. Choose a harder right over the easier role. In a system where excuses are common be those who deliver results. In moments of pressure be those who stand firm. Remember the future of this country will not be bold on intentions but character. And character is what has been shaped in you here. “

The military training program is part of a newly introduced module by the National Service Authority aimed at fostering discipline and nationalism among national service personnel.

In her address the the Director General of National service Authority Madam Ruth Dela Seddoh emphasize that the program is not a form of youth militarization but a structured intervention aimed at instilling civic responsibility and fostering a culture of patriotism and productive citizens committed to national development. ‘I am happy to announce that management and board of the national service authority are putting things together to get the program started on a national scale latest by July. It is in this regard that I highly commend the initiative of the MD Courage”

The Ghana Armed Forces and the National Service Secretariat were commended for their efforts in organizing the training program.
