Ghana Armed Forces launches investigation into deadly Helicopter Clash

The Ghana Armed Forces, has commenced a comprehensive Investigation into the deadly helicopter crash which claimed eight lives.

President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, in a national broadcast to the nation revealed that, an Investigative Board of Inquiry, has been established to that effect. “As we mourn, questions about the cause of this tragedy are natural and transparent. I want to assure the families and the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces has instituted full and transparent Investigation into the circumstances of this clash” the president said. He described the tragedy as big personal loss as he shared deep bonds with some of the departed colleagues, and lauded the eight for their unwavering commitment to Ghana, given that they died in service.

He called on Ghanaians to be measured in their utterances on the happening taking recognissance of he fact that all are above everything, Ghanaians not just by nationality but shared hope, shared humility and now shared sorrow. “This is not a time of division, speculations or political point-scoring. It is a time for strength, for empathy and for the enduring Ghanaian spirit that stands tall when all else fails” he stressed.

President Mahama, sent words of condolences to the families of the departed and Ghanaians, “To the families, to the Ghana Armed Forces, to the ministers and departments that have lost dedicated stuff, and to the National Democratic Congress, which mourns the passing of valued members, may you find strength in their memory and their legacy”. The Ghanaian President called that, “May we all be comforted by the knowledge that though they are gone from our sights, they remain forever in the spirit of the nation they faithfully served”.

President Mahama, in the address announced activities to mourn the eight departed.

There will be a gathering at the forecourt of the State House, on August 9, 2025, at 5pm, to observe an evening of reflection and memorial in honour of the departed colleagues. Books of condolences will at the same time be opened at the Defence Miniatry, Ministry of Environment Science & Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, National Democratic Congress headquarters and NADMO headquarters from Sunday August 10 to Thursday August 14, 2025.

The activities will be climaxed with an interdenominational state funeral at the Blackstar Square, on August 15, 2025, for the eight departed heroes.

The Ghana Airforce Harbin Z-9 Helicoper on August 6, 2025, crashed at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashantui Region of Ghana killing all eight inboard.

The eight lives lost were, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr. Mutala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and technology and member of parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director General NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Anala(Ghana Airforce)
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, (Ghana Airforce)and Sargent Ernest Addo (Ghana Airforce)
