Ghana has lost one of its most celebrated musical icons, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, following a short illness. The legendary highlife musician passed away on the morning of Saturday, July 26, 2025, according to a family statement issued through their legal representative.

The statement, signed by Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., Counsel for the Fosu Family from Baba Jamal & Associates, expressed the family’s “profound sorrow and deep grief” over the loss of the renowned artist who was more than just a musician to many Ghanaians.

“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives,” the release noted. “His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience.”

A prolific composer, vocalist, and performer, Daddy Lumba is regarded as a cornerstone of Ghana’s music industry. Over the course of his decades-long career, he released dozens of hit albums, redefining the highlife genre with a modern twist that resonated across generations. His work earned him numerous national and international awards, and his influence extended far beyond the music scene, making him a household name and a symbol of Ghanaian pride.

The Fosu family has asked for privacy during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of a beloved father, husband, and national treasure. “During this time of immense loss, we respectfully request privacy for the family and loved ones as they navigate this profound grief,” the statement concluded.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
