Parents are entreated to ensure that their wards consume Cocoa products regularly to enhance their cognitive development.
Sales and Marketing Manager of the Cocoa Processing Company Limited, CPC, Nana Agyemang Ansong, gave the advise when the company organised a competition for some schools in Tema, to mark World Chocolate Day.
Schools such as Santa Barbra, Datus International, First Star, Desk Educational Institute and Bexhill International performed raps, singing, dancing, spoken words and artistry, in the Alltime sponsored competition.
Mr. Ansong, charged parents to be delibrate about the kind of foods they feed their children with since they have significant effects on their development. He said, research has revealed that Cocoa products enhace cognitive formation of children saying, “Not only studies, but just as some take honey to promote brain functions, Cocoa is one major food that help in the cognitive development children”. This according to him is why CPC has targeted schools to whip up their interests in consuming Cocoa beverages to derive its benefits. “We have targeted schools to introduce them to our finest products, especially the Alltime which is affordable and easy to prepare” he emphasised.
Mr. Ansong, enumerated the various products available to Ghanaians saying. “You can take the Chocolate bar, Alltime, Pebbles and several other products made from Ghana’s topnotch Cocoa”.
The CPC Sales and Marketing Manager hinted plans to introduce some soft drinks to the market. “Oir R & D has worked on it before and are still working it out, so I’m hoping that very soon, you’ll see our soft Cocoa drinks on the market”.
All competing schools received certificates and a variety of products from CPC for participating whilst Datus International School, emerged overall winner and received the ultimate price.
World Chocolate Day, is marked every year on July 7, to commemorate the introduction of Chocolate to Europe in the 16th century. The day is a significant one for Ghana as the second largest grower of Cocoa globally and the finest Cocoa producer in the world.
Many Ghanaians therefore believe that it is long overdue to make Cocoa beverages an integral aspect of the school feeding programme. VoiceAfricaonline.com says better late than never at all.
