A heated confrontation between two panelists momentarily disrupted TV3’s political and governance programme, Keypoints, on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The tension began after development economist and lecturer Dr. George Domfeh argued that “there was nothing anyone could do about the Ghanaian economy at the time of COVID-19.” His assertion was immediately challenged by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, who blamed what he described as fiscal indiscipline by economic managers during the period.
The situation escalated earlier in the discussion after Prof. Ransford Gyampo, who also serves as CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, stated that although governance is continuous, it would be inaccurate to deny the opposition NDC’s contribution to Ghana’s economic gains over the last ten months. While Prof. Gyampo was making his point, Dr. Domfeh interjected, accusing him of attacking his academic reasoning. The exchange briefly disrupted the flow of the programme, prompting host Alfred Ocansey to step in and restore order.
However, matters worsened when Dr. Domfeh again forcefully rebutted Prof. Gyampo’s submission, using language and gestures deemed inappropriate for live television. The intensifying confrontation compelled the production team to take an abrupt commercial break.
Dr. Domfeh did not return to the panel after the show resumed.
The chaotic scenes unfolded shortly after Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Kwamena Ato Forson had spent about 30 minutes on the programme clarifying portions of the 2026 Budget Statement and Monetary Policy delivered to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
Before leaving the set, Dr. Forson posed a question to Dr. Domfeh that later became central to the debate: whether he would have credited the NDC if the economy had deteriorated over the past ten months — a point that sparked the heated exchanges that followed.
