The Centre for Climate Change and Food Security (CCCFS) is celebrating a major academic milestone following the conferment of a doctorate degree with summa cum laude — the highest academic distinction in Germany — on its Director of Research, Dr. Sulemana Issifu.

The honour was awarded on Tuesday during a ceremony in Germany, where Dr. Issifu successfully completed his doctoral studies in Molecular Microbial Ecology, a specialised field that examines the interactions of microorganisms within ecological systems and their impact on environmental sustainability.

His achievement places him among a select group of scholars whose research meets the most rigorous academic and scientific standards in the German higher education system. The summa cum laude distinction is reserved for candidates who demonstrate exceptional mastery, originality, and scientific contribution in their field.

In a statement, CCCFS said it is “proud” of Dr. Issifu’s accomplishment, noting that it reflects the organisation’s commitment to producing high-quality scientific research to inform policy and promote sustainable development. “We look forward to seeing him achieve even more,” the statement added.

Dr. Issifu has been instrumental in leading several climate and food security–related research projects, positioning the Centre as a key contributor to national and international scientific discourse. His new academic laurels are expected to further strengthen CCCFS’s research capacity in microbial ecology, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.

The Centre, in congratulating him, described the achievement as not only a personal triumph but also an inspiration to emerging scientists across Ghana and the subregion.
