Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, the founder of Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group, who died peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya. The statement described him as “Ghana’s beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist and industrialist popularly referred to as ‘Kantanka, the African Star.’”
Apostle Safo, widely celebrated for his pioneering role in indigenous automobile manufacturing and innovation, was also known for his philanthropy, industrial ventures, and commitment to advancing local technology. He was regarded as a father figure to many, particularly the underprivileged, and was hailed for blending his Christian faith with innovation and development.
The Kristo Asafo Church and the Safo family, while expressing profound sorrow, requested privacy during this period of mourning. “Ghana has indeed lost a gallant son and a true legend,” the statement read, citing Romans 14:8: “For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord.”
Details of the funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, affectionately called “Star of Africa,” leaves behind a legacy of resilience, courage, and innovation that continues to inspire generations across Ghana and beyond.
