The Assembly Member for the Attortorkope Electoral Area, Hon. Emmanuel Ahumah Akortia, has donated two printer machines valued at GHC23,000 to Gorm and Attortorkope Basic Schools in the Ada East District.
Hon. Akortia, popularly known as “Bro. Emma”, who also serves as an executive of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the two schools, presented the items at a brief ceremony. He expressed hope that the donation, though modest, would contribute to improving teaching and learning.
The Assembly Member, who has consistently supported schools in the district, noted his concern over the recent performance of Gorm Basic School despite the institution recording an aggregate 7 in the last Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He urged pupils to take their studies seriously to become assets to the nation while commending the dedication of teachers.
“I will continue to rally more support to enhance the infrastructure and resources of our schools,” he pledged.
Receiving the printers on behalf of the two schools, the School Improvement Support Officer for the Big Ada Central Circuit, Mr. Vortia Frederick Amartey, described the gesture as timely and impactful. He explained that the donation, which comes at the beginning of the academic year, would ease the production of teaching and learning materials and set the schools apart from others in the district.
Mr. Amartey appealed to individuals and organizations to support schools within the Big Ada Central Circuit to bridge resource gaps.
The Headmaster of Gorm Basic School, Mr. Horla Tettey, disclosed that the school currently has a population of 667 pupils and 20 teachers, but requires at least five additional teachers to improve academic performance.
