Efforts to address persistent educational infrastructure challenges in the Ashaiman Municipality have received a significant boost with the commencement of construction works on a two-storey, twelve-unit classroom block at the Presbyterian Basic School.
The project, which officially took off following a sod-cutting ceremony, is being executed through a collaboration between the Office of the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman and the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly. It is expected to significantly reduce overcrowding in classrooms and enhance the overall teaching and learning environment in the municipality.
When completed, the facility will consist of twelve fully furnished classrooms, a staff common room, a computer laboratory, washroom facilities and other ancillary infrastructure designed to support effective academic activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey, described the project as a critical intervention aimed at improving basic education in the constituency. He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for responding to calls to address infrastructural gaps in schools across Ashaiman, noting that funding for the project has been fully secured. The MP assured residents that construction works are expected to be completed within six months.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman, Freeman Tsekpo, disclosed that 80 per cent of the Assembly’s Common Fund allocation has been released, with a portion committed to financing the classroom block. He indicated that the funds will also support other priority projects in the municipality, including market development, additional educational facilities, water and borehole projects, as well as health and sanitation interventions.

The Ashaiman Municipal Works Engineer, Isaac Ofori, provided technical details on the project and assured stakeholders of strict supervision to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion.
The project contractor, Ernest Bae, also gave an assurance of delivering a durable structure, stating that construction is expected to be completed within a six- to seven-month period.

The new classroom block is expected to significantly improve learning conditions at the Presby School and contribute to broader efforts to strengthen basic education delivery in the Ashaiman Municipality.
