The Advocate for Indigenous Freight Forwarders (AIFF) has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the people of Ghana following the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including two serving Ministers of State.
In a statement issued and signed by its National Convener, Godfred Mawuli Tettey, the AIFF described the crash as a devastating blow to Ghana’s national leadership and security apparatus. The group extended heartfelt condolences to the Government, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the bereaved families, emphasizing that the victims died in service to the nation.
According to official reports, the Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter was on its way from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on an official assignment related to illegal mining (galamsey) activities when it lost radar contact. The wreckage was later discovered in a forested area in the Adansi South District. All eight occupants were confirmed dead at the scene.
The victims included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Also on board were senior party official Samuel Sarpong, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, a parliamentary aspirant, and three military crew members. The government has since declared three days of national mourning, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast across the country.
In its statement, AIFF noted that the late officials and officers demonstrated unwavering patriotism, bravery, and commitment to national service. It called on Ghanaians to remain united in grief and reflection, urging all citizens to honour the memory of the deceased by embracing peace and resilience.
“Their sacrifice is a painful reminder of the risks borne by those at the forefront of national duty,” the AIFF said. “We stand in solidarity with the President, the military high command, and the affected families during this period of deep national mourning.”
An investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched by the Ghana Armed Forces and relevant authorities.
The AIFF, known for its advocacy on behalf of local freight forwarders in Ghana’s trade and logistics sector, described the tragedy as a moment for national reflection and called for continued prayers for the bereaved families.
