School children of five schools in the West Ada District of the Greater Accara Region of Ghana have not been fed for one week following the prevention of caterers from cooking.
The Sege Constituency Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Enoch Teye Sewornu, stormed the affected schools in anger, drove out caterers and locked their kitchens depriving the children of feeding since Monday June 23, 2025, till to date. The unfortunate happened when some of the caterers were even preparing food resulting in the locking up of pots of stew and soup as all plea to persuade the chairman to unlock the kitchens for the caterers to preserve their perishable items fell flat.
VoiceAfricaonline.com independent probe revealed that, Mr. Sewornu’s anger stems from what he considers unfairness by national executive of the party in the allocation of school feeding contracts. According to him, the decision by national to take six out of the 27 schools in the district leaving 21 for the entire constituency is unacceptable. In view of this, Mr. Sewornu, who demanded that national adds three more schools to that of constituency in an attempt to execute such a decision engaged in the act.
As a result, the constituency chairman who is a lawyer by profession went to some schools including the Koluedor Public School, to stop caterers from cooking, sending the children on hunger for the whole week
According to further checks, the issue is envisaged to be resolved by close of the week for the caterers to resume next Monday or a formal complaint is made to the police to provide security for he caterers to come back.
