The President of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT), Jean-Guy Blaise Mayolas, has reportedly been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of multiple corruption-related offences.
Authorities convicted the football administrator on charges including money laundering, forgery, illegal conflict of interest, and the embezzlement of funds provided by FIFA during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
Investigations indicated that the funds, which were allocated by FIFA to support the development of women’s football and the construction of a national training centre, were allegedly diverted for unauthorized purposes.
The life sentence marks one of the most severe judicial actions taken against a senior football official in the region, highlighting growing scrutiny over the management of international football development funds.
