The Ghana Police Service has refuted rumours that the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has passed, calling the claims falsehood.
There have been media reports particularly on a number of online platforms in the last 24 hours claiming that the IG has died. The false reports came a couple of days after the president on the advise of the Police Council gave COP Yohuno, a two-year contract extension as he is due to hit retirement by December 2025.
A statement issued by the public affairs unit of the service clarifies that the reports are untrue as the IGP is healthy and going about his duties strongly. It urged officers, family members, loved ones and the general public to disregard those reports.
The service therefore cautions individuals peddling such malicious, insensitive and reckless rumours to be aware that misinformation is an offence and perpetrators will not be treated kingly when found.
By the contract extension, COP Yohuno, is expected to lead the Ghana Police Service until December 2027.
