Ashaiman on Monday witnessed history as the municipality installed a substantive chief after 16 years without one. Nii Anan Amui Adjor III, who had served as regent since the passing of the late Nii Amui II in 2009, was formally enstooled as the Chief of Ashaiman after the Amuiwe clan performed the required rites and customs.
The installation ceremony, held in a colourful atmosphere of drumming, dancing, and traditional pageantry, attracted thousands of residents, tribal leaders, and dignitaries, signaling a new chapter for Ashaiman.
In his maiden address, Nii Anan Amui Adjor III praised the Ghana Police Service for significantly reducing crime in the community despite operating with limited manpower and logistics. He called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide more resources to the Ashaiman Divisional Command to help sustain security gains and improve the municipality’s public image.
“We will work hand in hand with the police, the tribal heads, and the people of Ashaiman to completely tackle crime and enhance the image of our community,” the new chief declared.
The Council of Tribal Chiefs in Ashaiman pledged their allegiance to Nii Adjor III, assuring him of their unwavering support to foster unity and development.
The Chief of the Shai State in Ashaiman, Nene Tetteh Amponsah, expressed joy that Ashaiman has finally gotten a substantive leader after years of regency.
“This is a great day for Ashaiman. Now that we have a substantive chief, development will be fast-tracked. On behalf of the Shai people, I pledge our full allegiance and support to Nii Anan Amui Adjor III,” he stated.
Similarly, the Ewe Chief in Ashaiman, Torgbe Dika Ahoto, also pledged allegiance and expressed delight at the new leadership.
“We are happy to see unity restored in Ashaiman. I, together with my people, pledge our total support to work hand in hand with our new chief for peace and development,” he affirmed.
The police, represented by divisional officers present at the ceremony, also pledged stronger collaboration with the new traditional authority to consolidate peace and maintain law and order.
The event was also marked by strong religious unity, with the Muslim community well represented alongside Christian clergy, both pledging their support to the new chief and praying for his reign to bring peace and prosperity.
Market women and queen mothers were also fully represented, underscoring the broad-based support for Nii Anan Amui Adjor III. They pledged their cooperation in working with him to promote development, especially in boosting commerce and protecting livelihoods.
Residents and well-wishers hailed the installation as a historic moment, noting that the fast-growing commercial town required a unifying traditional authority to coordinate development and represent the people at the highest level.
The enstoolment of Nii Anan Amui Adjor III is widely seen as both a cultural renewal and a rallying point to rebrand Ashaiman as a safe, peaceful, and prosperous municipality.
